It's easy to swing a sledge-hammer. That's why so much of substack (and other media outlets) are full of criticism and deconstruction without intent to reform.
Your work is wonderful because it reminds us of the good things in front of us. It is constructive. It creates.
Thank you! I think life can be lonely, hard and bleak, and seeing the beauty and magic in trivial little things helps give it dimension and flavor. This encounter was one of the most uplifting things that happened recently and it means a lot when I can convey that to other people.
I can’t really think of a way to put this thought better, so I’ll just drop a heart and say thanks for encapsulating my thoughts so well — and thanks to BB for all these wonderful moments, so beautifully gathered up and shared 🤍
Oh, awesome! Yeah, it was awesome! He’s really awesome! Awesome idea! This is when the volume of my earphones can’t go high enough- that’s pretty funny! Good piece.
How lovely! I like listening in to people’s conversations; it’s the original social media. 🤣 but mostly it’s while walking in a local park.
They are so cool, these random encounters with strangers that create a sudden sense of warmth and understanding. Perhaps if I was a braver person I would strike up a conversation. But either way it is a gift.
I get tired of the conversations I overhear here because they are most often very sterile-Anglosaxon, but sometimes you hear sincere, vivid things. I sometimes miss odd encounters with people like my old downstairs neighbour, who would randomly start telling me how I’ll regret having just one kid, I should really have another one, and then move onto how yes, staying fit is so important as her husband really won’t come near her if she gains a couple of kilos. It was so inappropriate but funny and enjoyable, I didn’t mind because this is what she was like, this charismatic engine of noisiness and intrusion.
Absolutely agree about warmth and understanding, it’s an injection of hope and the power to live life.
If only everyone (I'm looking in the mirror by the way) could look, listen and perceive the currents of life swirling nearby with openness and imagination. Charming, utterly. Thanks for this.
Thank you for writing about beautiful things.
Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

What a lovely portrait of a young woman!
Thank you, Portia!

Thank you so much! I try to focus on the good, because I’m sure everyone has enough struggles and internal and external darkness going on.
There’s too much heed given to negativity and gloom. Life has plenty of sweetness and I’m glad you show us.
